347 5.4 rod ?
 

just wondering if anyone had any negative effects with the 5.4 rods in a 347 stroker motor? with this combo, the oil ring intersects with the pin bore.

I believe coast high performance has a kit where the pin does not intersect the oil ring. Two of my buddies have 347's with different kits, and Ive never heard them complain. - John

with that kit they use a 347 crank with a 5.3 rod opposed to the 5.4. i was just curious on how bad the blow by actually was. i have the 347 but am thinking about getting a 331 before i put it all together, if the blowby is going to be a problem.

There is no issue with the 347 vs the 331. Machine work and assembley is the concern for a long life. A 302,306,327,331,342,347, etc... will all last the same in the same hp applacations. This is a myth that has been started and will not die!!!

what i mean is blowby, is there more than normal oil consumption with the oil ring below the pin bore. the motor will most likely get taken out at the end of each year for bigger and better things, but just curious if it will eat more oil than a 331. i have also heard that the 347 actually loses some upper rpm horsepower, because of the awkward rod angle, and that it somewhat binds up. these could all be myths though.

MYTHS. The reason that a 347 will make power at a lower rpm then a 302 is because it uses more air. Also 331's have the oil ring in the pin bore to. Don't let them fool you.
