carb people click on this

I'm looking for a carb to buy. It will be on top of a 347 with canfield heads and a victor jr. intake. I will be shifting it at 6800rpm's. Fuel economy or emissions are no concern, but driveability is. I want to be able to go out on cruise nights and put around, but scream the piss out of it at the track an not be held back because i have a street carb on the car. Is this a dream or can it be done with a carb?

My dad has a Holley 750 Double pumper on his built 383 stroker in his 73' camaro. It hauls @ss at the track and has good manners on the street.

My friend has two motors that are very close to your combination, right down to the heads. One of them has gone 10.1 on nitrous and like 10.6 on motor and the other car went 10.75 last month on motor.
Here's a link to the specs on that car:
http://www.stanggang.com/members/bri..._red/index.php
He's carburated several cars and that one that is in the link can be driven pretty much anywhere you want to go any time you want to do it. It's using an 810 CFM Holley Quick Fuel.
He actually did try a few different carbs on this car and that is the one that performed the best but they're not cheap.
He did some work on the car that went 10.1 and has upped from the Canfields to a set of AFR 205 heads and a bigger cam so I belive he's upped the carb to an 830 CFM Holley HP.
If you want to know I'm sure I can get the jet sizes for you he wouldn't mind telling. He had a 750 on it in the past and it just really wouldn't hang, he loves that quick fuel though. Neither of these cars have a choke so you have to let it run for a little bit when you're warming it up.
Oh Yeah, for anybody interested that red car I linked to is FOR SALE at a VERY GOOD PRICE. Email me if you want details and I'll give you his email addy.

I'd say a 700 or 750 double pumper would work just fine. Maybe even a mighty demon 750, it's sort of between a standard double pumper(4150) and a 4150 hp unit, might be exactly what you're looking for.

I like my AED 750 and I have it on a 306.. so your bigger motor will like it better NO PROBLEM CRUISING w/AED

750 HP - it has tunable air bleeds, hi and low speed to fine tune the fuel curve. Drives like a 650, breathes like an 850.

Is that the 4150 you are talking about. I was looking at the 750 but was concerned about the choke delete. Is it a big deal?

I would go with the A.E.D Holley, mine is nails!!!!

You will have to "babysit" the HP and "Mighty\Speed\Race" Demons on cold start up until the engine warms up - not a big deal.

I live in Canada and I don't use a choke, I've pulled mine off of my last two carbs. I don't drive my car from mid November to the end of February but all I do is pump it a few times with the electric pump going and then nurse it until it's warm. I think it's a good anti-theft device because the average thief will be in too much of a hurry and stall the car 5 times giving you more chances to hear the car start and load up the .357 ;)

What do you think is better... the Holley 4150hp, or the rece demons? On the demon website they list a number of reasons why it is better then the Holley but is it for real and worth the price?

Thanks,
Wade

They are very close in performance and driveability. Of course every carb is a little different- even if you had 2 identical models lined up next to each other, chances are they will need to be tuned just a little different to achieve the ideal curve. I think you would be happy with either.

I have a demon 750 on my 383, I never have to "babysit" it. Always starts right up, great drivability too.

Trey Ragsdale 11-29-2002 04:58 PM

By "babysit" I did not mean under normal conditions. I was referring to cold start up, having to "tickle" the excelerator pump until warm up. If you do not have to do this under cold start up you are too rich on your main jets and/or rich on your idle cicuit.
