1972 302 heads

anyone now much about these heads are they good how do they compare to other heads and what is the cc. I was told these are a good head just wanting some feedback

Your stock E-7's flow better then those now if they were the 351 heads that is a different story

skidd 11-27-2002 08:03 PM

I was told that the gt40 heads where based on these older castings. is this true?

Shaggy 11-27-2002 08:04 PM

The GT-40 were based on the early 351 heads not the 289-302 heads. The 351 heads were a different head until 1974.

will these heads work desent with some minor port work or is it worth finding something else

Shaggy 11-27-2002 08:25 PM

They will work with decent but if they aren't free then I wouldn't want to put money in them sice you can get E-7's for free usually from other mustang guy port those and then have a better head then the early 302 and retain you smog holes. If you want the extra compression You can go with the E-6 heads from an 86 GT and port those out and get the compression from the early trrype head but better flow then the early head.

Anybody know how much it would be to make 69 351 heads emmisions legal? Like the air passages if it can be done at all. We have a pair of good 351 heads i was thinkin about using but theyd have to pass smog seeing how im in cali :(

Shaggy 11-27-2002 08:36 PM

Only way i can really think of how to do it would be to make some sort of AIR injection set up in you headers like chevrolets use. Be cause the 69 heads don't have any provision for the fresh air setup.
