MAC Exhaust/Product Opinion
I want to have a little different sound then most stang around here. (most run an H-pipe and Flowmasters around here) I think I'm going to run a Bassani X-pipe which I have past experience with but as far as a cat-back I am thinking about a MAC system. Anyone have any experience with MAC systems? I'm looking for feedback as far as fit, quality, and sound. Thanks a bunch.

Mac cat backs sound great. fit and quality is 50/50 with MAC.

If MAC made their stuff out of stainless they'd be the one to get. But I would suggest you pay a little more and get a Bassani or Borla cat-back. Or any other stainless cat-back as afar as that goes. I had the MAC cat-back and within 2 weeks the tail pipes were completely covered in rust.

The Mac cat-backs sound great.. at 3000 rpm it gets real loud..sounds nothing like flowmasters. I love them. I have had them on my lx with the chrome tail pipes for about 6 months now and there isn't one spot of rust on them.

A 4.6 exhaust sounds good to you?

My neighnourg had a MAC system on his Stang. Sounded violent. I had a the MAC catback on my Trans Am. I was very pleased with it. I would probably go with them again but I'm really tempted by BBK, having eard nothing but positive statements about them.
As for quality, mine had a aluminized finish and it never rusted in 2 years of staying outside... with snow and all!!! Nik |
I had a 1 5/8" shorties, hi-flow cat H-pipe and 2 chamber mufflers with LX tips.... all from MAC. I love the MAC sound. The fit was "ok". I had to play with it a little while until it fit the way I wanted it to sit. Their HTS coating sucks, but the quality of metal and welds are good (IMO).
I am now running BBK 1 3/4" long tubes, off road H-pips, and the same mufflers. I think BBK has a better quality then MAC, but BBK doesn't make mufflers. I would still go with the MAC mufflers. Like Mach 1 said, they are 50/50. They are good for low budget upgrades (compared to the outragious price of Borla). |

Ive had all the mac parts in my sig on my car for a year now. Fit was off a little where the prochamber joins the headers, everything else fit good. I love the sound and the tailpipes still look great when they are clean. Good Luck, John

i had a complete mac setup with the prochamber and mufflers with chrome tips. the fit was pretty good. had to bend the hangers a little, but other than that it was fine
the only gripe i have against them is that i thought it was gonna be louder. i think the prochamber quiets them down. but since you are not using the prochamber id say that they are gonna be a good muffler for ya. |
Thanks to all that have replied. Thats what I love about this website, everyone helps everyone else. Well hears what I think I'll do. So far I have MAC 1 5/8 equal length headers, a Bassani X-pipe with cats. And I think my cat-back will be the MAC 2.5'' truefit cat-back. I'm sure it will sound nice and I'm a creep about keeping the tailpipes looking good so I'm not worried about that. I break out the chrome polish on my stock tailpipes and my mom's Flowmaster pipe about once a week. Thanks again for all your help guys.

yeah i also herd the prochamber quiets them down. I have bbk full length headers with a bbk off-road h pipe, and the mac cat back and it sounds mean as hell.
