Loud thud when i shift

Ok so ive got an 89 lx w/ a 5 speed. Everytime i shift and the rpms drop more than 2 or 3 hundred, i hear a thud. It kind of sounds like a backfire but its not. I checked the driveshaft bolts and they're tight. So are the tranny mounts. I couldn't see anywhere under the car that looks like its getting hit, but i still hear the sound....

Any ideas?

How cold is it where you are? I live in northern Illinois and its cold as hell here. If I dont let my car warm up it does what your describing. It usually happens for a few miles of driving until the engine and trans is warmed up. If your car is doing thing all the time maybe letting it warm up wont help, but just a thought

well we just got about 10 inches of snow today but it seems to do it all the time, even after its warmed up.

do you have a off road h-pipe??? When ihad my 2.5in offroad h-pipe when my motor mounts were going the h-pipe would hit the floor right where it starts bending up

i do have a 2.5 inch h-pipe... how do i check the the motor mounts to make sure there not goign bad?

well first u can kinda just look at them and see if the rubber looks cracked but u can also try lifting the motor like superman i guess and see if you can move the motor up and there is a gap inbetween the metal and the rubber

that same thud drove me krazy in my car for like 3months and then i was very angry when i found out it was somthing that simple
