head gaskets instal

Heyo,
I just came back from pep boys, picking up some rtv sealer. I told the guy i needed some for the head gaskets, he gave me th blue one. I asked another guy that worked there, because on the back of the package it said not for use on head gaskets.lol. He then told me not to use any rtv sealer? What to do? I'm confused. He told me just to put on the gasket and the heads. What to do?

Do not use RTV on head gaskets. You can use a little around the water jackets on the intake manifold, just a thin layer.

most head gaskets dont require sealant. Check the gaskets and see if they are stamped with any instructions.

Agreed. You do not use any silicone on head gaskets. You don't mean valve cover gaskets, do you?

Just checking. I've gotten into some pretty heated debates over head gaskets only to find out later that they meant valve cover gaskets.
