5.4 Heads
Anybody know how these flow compared to the 99+ 4.6 heads? How about intake/exhaust matching?
I got to thinking, if you can swap heads across Windsor displacements, why not with the cammer motors? Any ideas? |
They are the same if I'm not mistaken. Besides my car came from factory with one marked for 5.4 Truck and other 4.6 Heavyduty Truck.

Yeah PI heads are used on the 4.6 GT's and the 5.4 mod motors.
Anybody up for calling a junkyard and seeing if the dope behind the counter tries to sell you some honest to goodness PI heads for more than 5.4 heads? |

That I don't know? Not that they are the definitive source on mod motors, but Foxlake has done some airflow work on the heads. According to them, if your getting the sohc head ported, it doesn't matter which head you are using. They all flow pretty much the same in ported condition.
However if I know Ford, then the PI heads have been on the 5.4 all along. :D |
Ok, so does the 5.4 get a plastic intake? I'm guessing since the deckheight is greater to increase the stroke, the 5.4 intake won't fit a 4.6 motor, but I'm just wondering if they run plastics on the trucks too?
|
Nope. The trucks use aluminum intake manifolds. It is very similar looking to the Bullitt/FRPP intake but with longer runners. My dad has this on his '02 F-150 which has a 4.6 not a 5.4 but it's very similar. I wonder if the truck intakes or parts of them would work on the Stangs? It used to be true with the 5 liter since the Exploder intake manifold would fit the Stang. I'm pretty sure the heads for the 5.4 were the same for the older engines. The new heads are identical to PI heads and are a bargain. If you can find them in a junkyard BUY THEM they are way cheaper than the mustang spec heads!
