It was a good day, I made some progess. I tore the engine down originally because of blue smoke during start up and while accelerating. I noticed today that the old oil pump was the notorious HV version. I wonder if that could have been part of the problem??

I "blueprinted" my standard oil pump by the Mathis book. There is really not that much in an oil pump.

All the tools a redneck needs to make standard pushrods, GT-40P heads, a decked block, and 1.6 roller rockers play nice together ;) I had to take the pedistals down 0.015" to get the right preload of 1/2 turn.

I do know that you aren't supposed to run a HV pump with a stock pan because it will suck the pan dry and put all of the oil in the valve covers, though I've never experienced this first hand, so it's 'hearsay' as far as I'm concerned, but it does make sense.

I ran a HV pump in my 306 for 3yrs. without any issues directly related to the pump... I've gotten blasted on other boards for simply disagreeing with the fact that a HV pump is a bad idea with a 7 quart pan, with is what I run. Moroso calls for a HV pump with the pan I use, so I can't see what the big problem is. One thing worth noting is that a HV pump takes a few more pony's to run vs. the std. vol. pump...

What's your take on the matter? :)

HV Pump
 

I said notorious because everywhere I look for info if states the HV pump will heat your oil and pump oil to the valve covers more that standard volume. If that is true then valve covers full of oil topped with bad/non-existant valve seals in my engine could lead to the start up smoke???

I actually have an HV68, masquerading as a FMS pump, in the shop in the original box. After all my research I went out and purchased a standard oil pump to use until I put the SC on. At that point I may put the HV in??? We'll see.

....makes perfect sense to me know. :) Yep!

What all did you do to blueprint your pump? I'm thinking that w/ the supercharger, unless you have a 7qt. pan, you should just stay with the std. vol. pump. I'd still check around to make sure. ;)

Yes Fast Computers are just like Fast Mustangs, they are fun and someone is always faster :)

I have an Athlon 1700+, GEForce2 GTS DDR, 512M RAM, 130G RAID 0, 19" monitor. And it is all about speed and gaming. I built it myself just lick the Mustang.

I'll bet those HP and TQ numbers in your sig are faily fun :D
