306 rebuild questions.
I was going to build a 306 over the winter and had a couple questions.
How much, if any, hp gain over the stock 302 short block can I expect with a balanced assembly with the stock crank and rods, in a decked, align honed and .030 over block? How much torque increase can I expect and will the curve change dramatically? I've pulled 293rwhp @ 5600 and 316rwtq @ 3900 on my stock 80k mile block with Edel. 6032 heads, TFS Stage 1 cam, ported Cobra intake, 70mm tb, 76mm maf, 24lb inj., 190lph fp, MSD 6AL, pullies, LT headers, o/r h and 2 1/2" cat back. I'll be swapping the top half to the 306 bottom end. I'll be using either used TRW pistons or the Summit kit with the Speed Pro pistons and rings. Any opinions on rebuild kits are welcome as well. i made the mistake of building a 306, just build a 331 or 347 just about the same price. check on e bay and piece together a brand new setup, i got a 347 w/eagle forged crank $200 (new) eagle h beam rods $150 (new) probe forged pistons (new) $369. damn good setup for what i spent. i bought it all from e bay stores not individuals. just my .02

331 or 347?
While you're in there, have you considered dropping in a stroker package?

I just figured I could build a 306 for alot cheaper. I thought I could pick up 20-30 hp, but all I've been hearing is I won't pick up much of anything. I got a deal on the block that came out of a buddies 332 stroker, he's upgrading to a mexican block. I figured a Summit rebuild kit (~$400), a used crank and rods (under $200), and then I could sell my shortblock and do the whole thing for a few hundred bucks. The best prices I've seen on the strokers is like $1000.
