pulling to one side when braking

When I get on my brakes whether its really lightly or really hard, my steering wheel wants to pull to the left. If I hold the wheel lightly when coming to a stop and let go just as I let go of the brakes the steering wheel will turn slightly back to the right.

I just had an alignment done, it was doing this before the alignment too. My mechanic said there was a little play in my steering rack, would this be the reason?

Thanks,
Geoff

If it does it under braking its your brakes. Sounds like your front left is braking harder than the front right. I would check your brakes.

Sounds like your pass side caliper is not working correctly. If your drivers side brake pads are more worn, or you notice more brake dust on the drivers side this confirms that. I had this same problem, I paid $13 a piece for rebuilt calipers at Auto Zone and they work fine now. Also a bad ball joint will cause the car to jerk to one side when you hit the brakes but then it goes straight, been there too.

Mine tends to jerk to the right. When I'm about to take a look and replace the part it'll work fine. They're both new calipers and the wear is the same on both. Only thing is that sometimes the right tire will make a noise when I take off as if it were staying stuck.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've been pretty sick so I haven't had time to respond. I'm going to bleed the system and change my balljoints this weekend so hopefully that helps.
