temperature question???
When I'm driving my car and I get to a heavy traffic, my car all of the sudden goes really hot, but it does not over heat, what can I do to make the engine cooler???
Thanks.. |
do you have factory or aftermarket gages? it makes a diff
|
FIrst thing I'd make sure to check is the temperature sending unit to make sure that is straight b4 I went and bought any major thing like a radiator, etc... Start with the easiest/cheapest things first...

I got factory gages
|
the factory gages are prone to showing inacurate readings.. I bet when you are cruising at low speeds or at idle.. it shows hotter than riding say 55mph.. I bet its because voltage drop to factory gages, My car does it.. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and all.. I took a temp probe and stuck it right to the head and it read 186 degrees water neck read 184 degrees.. so I know my factory gages are JUNK but I like the factory look over the whole gage clusters and pods..

The factory gauges do suck, are really shouldn't be relied upon, but your description is typical for a radiator that is becoming restricted. If it's the original radiator, I can assure you that it will run cooler if replaced. Still, you might want to look into some aftermarket gauges for reliable readings.
Take care, ~Chris |
This summer during dyno tunning on my car(Rff Performance ) I found out how efficient my BeCool(single row) aluminum Radiator was compared to other cars with factory radiators. I live in southeast texas; humidity stays very high. I cant stress enough how important it is to keep temps low for performance cars(temp goes up....timming comes out!)
