Line-locks ??

What are your thoughts on using line-locks in an 88GT? My son is talking about installing one for the track. I've heard some things about line-locks affecting the powerboost of the brakes to the point with a hi-performance motor drawing lots of vacuam.

ling lock hold the pressure to the front brakes with a solonoid. they won't affect your engine vacuum cause just the solonoid is holding the pressure in the lines. all you do is pump your brakes up a few time, hold the pedal down and then push the button then you can take you foot off the brake pedal and as long as you keep button down your front brakes are locked

289, glad to see your still in it, hope he stays stait. If you have not all ready had your tranny built I know where an AOD is. 2 converters 35 and 5000, line loc, skatter shield, C-4 gear ratio, built with all good parts and for cheap. PM me if you want it.

I've got mustang in my blood since my teenage years - now my son's got it...

I forgot to mention we currently have a 5-speed tranny - not sure if it even makes sense for a line-lock with 5-speeds.

line locks?

It definitely makes sense to have a line lock with a 5 speed tranny. That way you don't have to powerbreak during your burnout at the track and put excessive wear on your rear breaks.

OMG I am stupid, I ment transbrake

A line lock is a very nice item to have if you frequent the dragstrip... (1) you don't have to heel-toe the brake and gas pedals to do your burnout (extending the life of your rear brakes) & (2) if you've ever had problems with rolling out past the beams, you can lock your car solidly in place on the starting line... just be sure to time your release of the line lock button with your launch properly, lol.

Here's how I set mine up...

What's a good line-lock to get and typical price? I'm sure they're just like every other part many different vendors.

They also sell an install kit (p/n SUM-G3904) for $27.39, but I just made a trip to the local parts store, and ended up spending less. The kit is universal, so I imagine there's stuff in there that you won't end up using.

I have a line lock in my car and it works but it doesnt work great...I think its because of the power brakes. I cant get a real hard pedal by pumping them up. The tires still slowly creep forward on me while doing a burnout. The RF tire does more than the LF so the car wants to do a donut. So im just gonna get rid of the power brakes and install the manual brake conversion kit. Are there any cons to doing this on a daily driver? I like the feel of the manual brakes on my race car but it has all wilwood brakes on it and the car really cant be compared to my 90lx being that the only factory components on it are the roof, quarters, and tail lights.
