5.0 into a 96 GT

how hard would it be to put a 5 litter into a 96 GT

underpsi 01-02-2003 02:02 AM

put a 94-95 k member in it

Not very hard at all. I say go for it if you are going to stay naturally aspirated. 5.0's are cheaper and easier to modify thatn the 4.6.

You would need the 5.0 computer and harness.

cross memeber

motor mounts

and maybe a tranny mount.

In the end, I think you would be much happier by just doing the 99-up PI head/intake swap. You'll make alot more power than a stockish 5.0L motor, and tons more than your current engine.

The 4.6's aftermarket is starting to really come alive, so theres plenty of parts to choose from now. Not to mention the fact that that motor really loves boost:)

But if you just insist on putting a pushrod motor into it, and want to go through all the trouble, then why not a 351? Not really anymore work than putting a 302 in it.

Just a thought, good luck

That is a good point. A 351 would be a hell of an upgrade.

You can have a 99+ head swap OR boost. You can't have both. Well you can.....but only if you have some serious balls. The 99+ headswap results in 11:1 compression on a 96-98 4.6. You gonna throw boost on top of that?

thats one slight detail that I completely forgot about:p

I thought it was more like 10-10.5:1, but either way, thats too much for any decent amount of boost.
