compression problems..what do you think

If your mustang is leaking about a quarter size drop of oil every couple days, could that be a sign of compression problems, blown head gasket or just a oil pan gasket leak???

Thanks...

It's not a head gasket or a compression problem, but it's not necessarily an oil pan gasket, either. You need to get under there and look around. If it's really bad, wash it off at the car wash, and check the next day for a fresh leak.

Places to check:
valve cover gaskets
front and rear intake gaskets
front and rear main seals
oil pan
oil filter
oil pressure sending unit
PCV valve.

Take care,
~Chris

Do you think I should have more RWHP with my mods?

I'm gonna get a compression test done pretty soon to tell me if anything is wrong.

Thank you,

Tony

Yes, but a lot of factors play in. What is your fuel pressure set at? What about initial timing? Keep in mind you have a crappy SN95 computer that does weird things too...and the AOD-E's aren't the world's most efficient transmission.
If you suspect compression, have a compression test done.

I agree w/ jonnyk, but even then, your numbers are very low for what you have. I'd get someone to look at it for you.

moponys 01-03-2003 12:35 PM

I agree with both of you...

My fuel pressure is set to 38psi and timing is at 10*.

All of the timing advance was done on the chip by the Mustang Ranch.

I figure I should have at the least 30 more horses in the combo.

I'm gonna do the compression test as soon as I can.

Thanks again,

Tony

Lets see, your car came stock with 215hp, and 285 ft/lbs torque.

Your mods have managed to give you a mere 20hp, but rob you of 25ft/lbs of torque?

Something is definitely wrong man, I would say even seeing 30 more hp with all your mods is an understatment.

moponys 01-03-2003 01:34 PM

I'm hoping you're right and 30 more hp is an understatement but the 215hp stock isn't at the rear wheels. 215 is at the engine. I think stock rwhp was somewhere between 180 and 190.

So I actually gained about 50hp at the wheels and probably about 80hp at the engine, I think???
