86 V6 to 89 5.0 Questions
 

I recently found a really good deal on a 86 Stang but the only problem is it has a V6 and i was wondering what is involved in swapping in a 89-91 5.0 engine, i have heard it is easy to swap engines in the fox mustangs but is there anything different in swapping in a engine with the different Air Metering system? Anyone from Cali. know about the legalities of doing this swap for smog? Any info is helpfull

PS What kinda mods would be required to get a stang into the Mid-Low 13's with the 5.0 engine?

it is 100% legal to swap in any engine the same year or newer that the car was offered in in the first place. Go ahead and do the swap, just retain ALL the original 5.0 emission stuff, you will need to go to a referee to get it inspected and passed--no big deal here.

However, I really wouldn't suggest this swap. You can get a nice 86 gt now for almost nothing, and save yourself all the work--either way, good luck.

I found the car for $1000 with good body and interior, what is involved in swapping computers and anything else, i have never done a engine swap on a computer car so im wondering whats interchangable and whats not.

parts you would need are as follows:
86 5.0 engine harness-can convert it to mass air w/ computer
5.0 fuel lines
5.0 tank [need 86 tank so fuel level sender in tank matches your guages
86 5.0 tach
fan shroud & fan assy
throttle cable
extend alternator wiring harness over to pass side
of course any 86-93 5.0 eng
5.0 tranny-----auto or manual
whole lotta time & patience if this is you first swap.
