351w in 65 shelby clone

Trying to leave hood as 65 shelby would have been, does anyone know if a 351 windsor with typical intake...ex:edlebrock perfromer rpm will clear under the hood?? If it is possible, I am trying to avoid a cowl induction hood, but not sacrifice the benefits of a slight high rise intake

Even using a stroked 302(347) with a medium rise intake, I had to go cowl hood.

Hi,
I think it should be able to fit (not sure though). I wouldnt use a cowl hood though if your trying to make it look like a Shelby, its a dead giveaway. Good luck!

shelby hood scoop

well, I have a 351w in my 66 coupe with a edelbrock rpm manifold, 700cfm holley and a k&n xstream filter. I still have the original hood but I did have to add a shelby hood scoop 3/4 of an inch of clearance. Better be ready to get a scoop or a new hood . Good luck! -Matt

I have the performer intake on mine, and it BARELY fits under the stock hood. Mine still has the 65 style motor mounts though, which I hear makes the engine sit up a little higher than the 66 and later ones. If you run the shelby-style hood w/scoop, use the 66 mounts, and have a short air cleaner, I think you should be ok.

BTW if you do go that route, I would recomend getting the whole fiberglass hood with the scoop already molded in rather than adding a shelby-type scoop to the hood you already have.

Good luck with it...sounds like it'll be sweet car!

more clarification

Ok guys, I should have been a little more clear on this...My car is a 65 shelby clone....it has been completed for a few years. My question was getting at the whole...I want to KEEP my 65 style hood WITH the shelby scoop and avoid a cowl induction hood. A couple of you have already helped me with this (THANKS!!!) Sounds like I need to get the 66 mounts to be on the safe side.

I am swapping a 351 windsor for the more grunt power...otherwise, the car has been done now for 3 years. There are pics of my car on this website taken right after I completed it, with my old crappy looking wheels---- I have no idea on how to forward you to the link....just search 65 fastback 13.0-13.9 range I am the one in Illinois.
thanks again for all help, and any future hints.
Ryan
