Clutch Cables!?!?!?!??!?!??!!!!
I had enough with Cables which clutch cable do you guys perfer and why????

I have the one from Ford, and I haven't had any problems with it.

i have broken just about every kind of cable except a ford, all the other companys lasted about 2 months, fords is still going strong

I got a Summit adjustable cable, and it works great. I'm using it in conjunction with a firewall adjuster so I have maximum adjustability.;)

Billet Firewall Adjuster...
You must get one of these if you have had or continue to have problems with aftermarket cables.
The billet adjuster comes with some cables as a package: example- page 1 of MM & FF Feb 2003 issue for 129.95 from Holcomb Motorsports This adjuster is a flared tube with a adjustable screw to vary tension without having to crawl underneath the car. It prevents binding at the firewall due to improper cable geometry, thus making shifts easier and eliminating fraying of the clutch cable. IMO, it's one of the best things out there for mod'ed 5.0's. I've broke a Zoom cable and a stock Ford one. It was cheaper for me to buy an aftermarket one than a stock replacement so I got the one from Hayes. I've learned that it's usually exhaust heat that snaps cables and it usually happens the first time you drive your car that day after it's been weakened by the heat and then is cooled (both of mine snapped near the tranny end of the cable and I had the firewall adjuster in both times). I re-routed mine so that it is now as far away from the exhaust as I can get it without it binding.

The ONLY cable worth using is the OEM Ford cable. I have tried all the others and snapped then under the load of the FMS clutch - they are all junk.
To get the Ford cable, you have two options. 1) Go to the dealer and order E4ZZ-7K553-A for $170, or 2) Get the FRPP kit, M-7553-A302 for $65 and get the EXACT SAME CABLE plus the clutch fork! Don't ask me why there is a huge price difference (the cable and fork together from the dealer is about $210!!!), but the FRPP kit is the way to go. I even bought an extra one when they were $40 so I could have a spare just in case. The price just went up in the last year when Ford went to a new cable supplier. Hope all that helps! |

When my stock cable frayed I shopped around and ended up getting one from Steeda. The day it arrived I was sitting there playing with it and noticed I had a tube of graphite laying on the coffee table and figured even though it is a teflon lined cable a little dry lubricant like graphite couldn't hurt... Well, let's just say I learned a very valuable lesson... I am guessing it was the heat and powdered graphite that didn't get along but anyway within a month or two the cable got very stiff and within about three months I was developing a very big LEFT leg and was afraid I was going to break the cable or bend the pedal so I orderd another one from steeda and this time installed it "as is" (I already had the quadrent and fire wall adjuster) and have had no problems since.:cool:

yeah, it's a right hand drive mustang!!! LOL you knew what I ment, I just get my right and left mixed up sometimes... Oh, sure, nobody ever coments on the tech part of my posts, but I make one silly mistake and everbody is all over it!!!:D
