wrist pin size.......HELP.......is this right?
i have a set of je pistons (347w/5.4 rod, 8.5:1comp) w/ .927 wrist pin diameter, and a set of eagle h beam rods (5.400c pt#) I DONT KNOW WHAT SIZE THE PIN IS ON THE RODS, I KNOW THE ROD JOURNAL IS CHEVY 2.10.
MY QUESTION IS, I CAN PUT THE PIN THROUGH THE ROD BY HAND, i thought they had to be pressed in.......does this mean that i have the standard ford sized pin diameter in the rod? if so is there any way that i can have a bigger bushing put in the rod to compensate the size. the pistons came with the pins, so i know those are .927 |
never mind, i answered my own ? the je's come with spiro locks, thats what keeps it from moving around
i was used to my stock type stuff that had full floating pistons THANKS ANYWAYS |
What you've got now are full floating wrist pins, stock are press fit.

aahhhhhh gotcha, another ?..........is there some special tool to get the spiro locks in their "home", i cant seem to find a way to do it.

I read somewhere there is a tool to remove them, but not to install them. (???) ...I'm thinking it was over at Hardcore50.com, though I can't recall for sure. (do a search over there - spiro locks - if you want)
I use a couple of very small flat-head screw drivers to remove them... what a pain in the arse! Very tedious work, that you must do carefully, or else you run the risk of slipping and scratching the side of the piston. Installing them is very tedious as well... just start one end into the groove and then sort of feed it around until in place. Push the first one down into the groove, to seat it all the way, and then start the second one. The first one you do will take the longest, obviously, but after doing a few you start to get the hang of it. The biggest thing is to not get in a big-*** hurry to get them in, and you should be fine... otherwise, have an engine builder do them for you. (I say give it a try, at least) -Ryan |
yeah i actually found how to do it online, they say to pull it apart 3/4 of an inch, and then work it around. i have them all done now hopefully i never have to pull them out though.
thanks a lot |
