78 to 69 body change?
hey guys, I'm trying to figure out if i will be able to change out a 1978 mustang II mach 1 front for that of a 1969... I really like the looks of the 69 better, but 1 am unable to find a 69 that is under 20k, let alone find one that is within my price range (under 6k so i can repair). I just dont find the front very apealing on the 78 and was hoping I could make some changes...
anyone know? the mustang sports the 302 and a 4 speed manual, pretty crappy tires, and i'm betting the suspension is trash as well... but the interior and engine is great and so is the trani... so I'd like to hold onto the 78 but make the looks a lil different.... so, am I dilusional, or is this something i can get done, and hopefully for fairly cheap. I used to be a modular guy until i decided to sell the GT and go with old school, so this area is new to me. all help and suggestions are welcome. Torinalth |
Never heard of anyone doing that before. But with enough $$$ anything is possible. I know the 69 is a much bigger so I dont even know if you could use stock pieces.

Yout want to put a a 69 mustang front cap on a 78 Mustang II. There is really no nice way to say this.....your either smoking crack or really stupid.

Thats the craziest idea ive heard in a long time, but hey why not?!
I dont know if the 69 is longer or not but if it isnt you would only have to make the hood narrower which in theory isnt that hard. If they are close enough to the same size i would think about getting your hands on a one piece fiberglass front end. Then fabricate your own mounts. Or you could take the crude approach. Find a 69 cut the ENTIRE front off of both cars and just weld the frames together. Kinda ghetto, but hell it might work |

Your cheapest route would be to sell the '78 and just buy a '69 Mach 1 that needs work. They can be found, just look around. Check ebay.
