Ran a New Best

Went to Gainesville today and Ran a new best 12.53@107mph, on a shutdown run, broke the oil pump drive and shut it down about 200 ft. from the traps. Nothing seems broken other than the oil pump drive so I will replace that and hopefully no other damage. Still a good run for my car :)

Congrats on the new best, looks like you've got another best right around the corner, once you get the pump fixed. I tried making it to Gainesville today also, but things came up. I'm planning on being their next Saturday, in fact I'm going to put a post out to see if we could stir it up with the any of the GM crowd for next Saturday.

the oil pum shaft

Just a minute now JaxTheD, while youv'e got that motor apart check those bearings!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bearings are cheap, pistons, valves, rods and cranks aren't!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the crush is gone out of the bearings (ie: the lighter gray part, and if a copper color is showing you cold be in trouble) repalce them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No metal in the pan is a good sign but check anyway!! I've see it happen right before my eyes and I felt ablolutely sick after, the guy just replaced the shaft.

Hope I've helped more than caused a guilty conscience.

Thanks for the kind words guys, after inspecting the motor, the bearings were wiped,so now the 331 goes in and hopefully an even better pass next time out.Should have the new engine in by Sunday. Funny how it's always the 6.00 parts that cause the most damage......LOL It's all good. At least I didnt destroy the heads and cam.
