Changing spark plugs
 

I have a 2000 GT. Is there an easy way to change my spark plugs. There is a bar that goes over them which i think is the way electricity is distributed so there are no spark plug wires. When i try to lift this bar off fuel shoots out. Is there a way to shut off the fuel or am i doing something wrong????

Um yeah.

That's your fuel rail. There are spark plug wires on you car. Start at the ignition boxes, there should be two one at the front of each cylinder bank. Follow those wires back to where they end on the other side. Those are your spark plug wires.

If you need to move the fuel rail a little to get your exstension to fit, they are sightly moveable. But I would suggest not pulling them off, its not needed.

Duece, yeah i knew that was the fuel rail. What i need to know is how to shut off the flow of fuel or a way to get at the top of the plugs so i can screw them out. The first one in line on the driver side is no problem to get at. After that though as you get closer to the rear of the car it is almost impossible to get the boot off the plug to unscrew it. If the fuel rail wasn't in the way i would have more leverage and be able to get at them better.

You're not getting high enough. They don't need to come off, you just need a longer extension. Try a 10".

it's the BOOT i can't get off. I'll try again and tell ya how it goes.

Ok, I've got ya now. This may sound like stupid advice, but try it palm up. See If you can get it between your index and middle finger, like they are chopsticks. I forgot how tight it can be back there.

Hey Bro. The first time I ever tried to change my plugs, I took the fuel rails off to get easy access to the plugs. You dont have to do his though. Maybe its new to you, and Duece, the 99+ GT has the Coil on plug, no distibution boxes like the 96-98. Easiest way is to just take out the screw (1 per coil) that holds the coil down. Pull it out at an angle. If the boot comes off while your doing it, no big deal. After you change the plug, it will go back on easily. Hardest plugs to get to are on the passenger side back. Other than that, its simple. You dont have to force or pry anything. If you do, your gonna break it.

remove the bolt holding the coil pack (7mm) each coil removes at a slight angle. the rear passenger side is the hardeat plug to do. best use an extension that lets your socket swivel slightly the coil pack that is the most difficult to remove is the one located under the t-body. this is due to the fuel inlet.
