alternator pulley stuck
I got underdrive pulleys for my 93 stang and i cant seem to get the alternator pulley off. It just stays on and turns everything. i used a impact wrench to and it doesn't turn just bangs. i tried a breaker bar and mallot but still no. does anyone have any idea how to get it off or to stop the turning w/o damaging anything. I dont want to take it to a shop cause around here id be suprised if it was over 100$ just to do them.
Any help appreciated big time thanks a lot mark |
give the nut a little heat, then keep the impact cranking on it.
it should definitely come off with a little heat (torch) |
I letf my belt in place until I broke the nut loose. But, what works for one doesn't always work for another.

I would suggest getting an impact on it with a little more arse.

I had the same problem. We were using a cheaper impact on it and it wouldn't budge. We then switched to a better impact with a little more kick and it came right off. I was amazed at the difference in the two inches. I am not sure how those two are rated, but I think there is a big difference in brands too.

My cambell hausfeld  impact won't budge mine either. Seems like you just need an impact with some more balls.

Unbolt the alternator, put it on the concrete shop floor, get a chisel and a propane torch. Heat the bolt so it softens a bit, put the chisel on the nut and whack it with a mallet till it snaps. Angle the chisel to the side so you dont actually hit the threads. Worked for me.
