Bought Motorcraft Plugs. Good choice? Need Opinions Please!
 
I ended up buying Motorcraft Sparkplugs. They are not the platinums and the part # is ASF42C. They are the same plugs that are in my car now, because thats what the original owner used.

My question is, was this a good choice or should I have gotten Autolites. As I stated in my previous post I do not want Split fires or Platinums. Should I return these and get Autolites? I was going to get Autolites, but Murray's doesn't carry them so I went with these instead. As you can tell I still can't decide so please respond.

They're fine. You don't want platinums and split fires defy science. They give you the impression that multiple arcs of electricity can go of in different directions at the same time. Instead, you just have an arc that moves randomly from one part of the electrode to another.

Thanks Jimberg, I'm surprised I got a response so quick. Usually it takes a while on a somewhat uninteresting question about sparkplugs. I'm probably going to keep them unless I hear a great number of positive responses for the Autolites.

Stick with the motorcraft plugs.

Jimberg-I'm curious as to the reasoning behind not wanting Platinum plugs. Why? Thanks.

Platinum is of a higher resistance than copper. Thus you can get a less powerful spark, although platinum is a catalyst, so it could possible it could make up for some of that.

Also why spend the extra money and let your plugs stay in until they are nearly impossible to get back out without stripping, especially in aluminum headed cars?

Platinum plugs will spark at a lower voltage than copper plugs. They also don't wear out nearly as fast. Since they do spark at lower voltages, they don't spark with the same intensity that copper plugs do, although they spark more reliably. We're performance people and change our plugs often so there is no need for the durability of platinum and new plugs that are checked often will spark reliably. We also want the most intense spark that we can get to ensure complete combustion. That's why we use copper core plugs instead of platinum.

Stick w/ the Motorcrafts.....don't waste your $$$ on the gimmick plugs like split fires or platinums.

Thanks for the replies, and bada$$lx don't worry I'm not going with any of the gimmick plugs or platinums. Provided its not raining tomarrow, I'm going to put in the Motorcrafts.

Motorcraft have proven to be some of the best parts to use on fords, i hear the nkg's or ngk's are good in stangs too

I'm running AC Delco plugs and have used Motorcraft, both with great results! Stay away from Champions, any platinums (especially if you're gonna run nitrous) and all the gimmick plugs.

I heard it somewhere on this board, "Spent thousands on an engine, but use $1.50 spark plugs" (I can't remember the quote but that's close).

Can anyone honestly say that they could feel a difference from one new spark plug to the next? I just buy whatever the store I'm at sells.

you dont feel the difference in power, you see the difference in quality. champions are garbage, and although many people like autolights, i had some problems with them in the past. NGK's are some of the best quality plugs, and are priced reasonably.

Unless the guy behind the conter will show me the catalog to be sure I get the right other brand plug, I will only run Motorcraft. Most of the idiots a Autobone can figure out the plugs if they're not stock.

The June 2001 issue of 5.0 Mustang magazine used NGK UR55 plugs. They say that they are basically foul-resistant due to a split in the electrode.
