reading codes?
 

I am getting an occasional check engine light. This is a question I really should know the answer to, but I guess I don't.

What is the easiest way to pull codes? Do I just get one of those code readers from the local auto parts store or what?

this came up just a coupe days ago.. there's two options... or three I guess..

1. use the voltmeter/paperclip method
2. get a 30 dollar reader from walmart or something
3. find a friend who has one/or a mechanic and pay him

I copied the picture from a previous thread... here's how it works... though once you get the codes you'll need to post them to have poeople translate them...

Thanks for the reply. Looks like the next free weekend I have I will pick up a reader from Wal Mart and see what I can find out.
