price on gt-40 iron's??
Guys i might buy some gt-40 heads off a guy that pulled them off a 97 explorer, he says they are not p's since the plug angle is traditional, im going to offer him 400$, does that sound reasonable? he says they have had a valve job and mill, and they have 3 bars cast into them, im going to look at them in the morning, so how much are they worth? thanx for any help....

i believe in the middle of 97 the went to the P's. $400 sounds ok. i wouldnt pay more than that unless the heads have had some major work done to them.

If you go to www.GEFracing.com you'll see they sell GT40 heads Brand Spanking New for $480.....why would you pay $400 for a set that are 6 years old and are coming off a truck?! I mean I usually give used parts away that I didn't buy individually.....I mean I'm sure the trucks been paid for for a long time now....are they really worth that much to the owner? Just bringing it to your attention that $300 is probably more of a fair price because there exists plenty of them out there, it's not an extinct item. Just my 2 cents;)
If they've really had work done and I'ds examine the quality very carefully....maybe I'd offer $375 and if you could have them flowtested and they were sensational....then maybe I'd pay $425.....they're still only GT-40's:D |
Just letting you know. I just bought a set of Gt-40 Irons, complete and stock from a board member here. Wont say names. I was going to pay him $300 dollars but we worked a trade for parts instead. Im just saying I think $300 is a very fair price.

Well the guy seems firm on his price, he says they were milled .10 thousanths, and valve job done, i still might get down to 425$ dunno.....
anyone know what i can expect on compression ratio using these? |
I just paid $300.00 for a set of GT 40 head (private) sale that came off a 94 cobra, I think $300.00 is fair price because I found junkyards that were selling them off ford explorers from ranges of about $350 - $700

absolutely nothing wrong with the GT40's. even a decent set of iron heads run you at least $650. 88Workcar is kicking asz with E7's!! Just think what he could do if he had a set if GT40's! I would try to get the price down if you can, but look at it this way, after you port them, you wont be dissappointed and you wont be broke compared to the aluminum heads. i say go for it!

Thanx guys, i got them today for 425$ from a guy that works for ford, they look really nice, im almost too excited to let them go to a machine shop, i just want to throw them on. im guessing with the machining they are around 62-64 cc.
If anyone seen my post about the 'what i think is a fuel pump problem' im facing that dillema, but the heads need a bigger pump anyway, great time to upgrade:D wish i could post pics, they really look brand new! should everthing bolt up as far as rockers? i have the crane cobra style 1.7's i would uprade the springs but i'll have to use whats there for now.... thanx for the feedback, i'll repost on e.t's im hoping to pick up 3 mph, i'll be happy. finally some decent power. yes i know e7's make mad power when worked with, but i have no time to let my car sit that long.;) i know a modded subaru wrx that needs a lesson taught. one more thing, will i need washers for my head bolts? i'll be ordering some arp bolts, and then some felpro head gasket's. |

Gotcha srv1;)
I left them to a friend today for some work, probaly stage 3 port, with 3 angle job, i was in the machine shop today, we pulled off some springs and removed some valves, examining everything, also prepping for the extensive porting it will undergo, hopefully i can add a cam to all of this, that will add fuel to the fire...... litterally:) |
