Speed to a 3.8?
Help!!! I need to stop getting outran by these japanese cars. What would be one of the better things to do to my 3.8? I have around $400 maybe a little more that i can spend on some performance. A buddy of mine reccomened a 3.73 gear rear end. I am not sure about what this will do to my gas mileage, and top speed, but i nkow that it helps a lot on 0-60 time. If anyone can help, please post a message.
Thanks, Jason |
No doubt, go with gears they make a huge difference in acceleration. If I had a 3.8 I would go with 4.10's insteda of 3.73's......You need all the help you can get.

I agree with Dark 5.0. Will not bother gas too much. Top speed what does it matter when will you be curising around at 120 + mph? You can get a ford set for $139 and installed for like $200.

4.1 sounds great, but what about when i take this car for long trips? I dont want to be at 5500 rpms driving down the interstate. How big of a difference is the 4.1 compared to the 3.73? I have also heard that the 4.1 is more delicate than the others?

Point? Look for a used Blower with your stock pistons and rings 6 to 8 psi wouldnt blow a Piston and would be fine on Pump Gas. |
Miss mischief why did you put a chevy engine into your mustang?

Getty Up Go! Engine and Transmision Came From a F-250 SD with a 5.7L and Heavy duty Transmision. A Chevy 5.7L Is a 350?   |

i have a 2001 3.8 with no mods and i have no problems beating most imports |
1995. 145 bhp. I am not sure what my 0-60 time is, but it is a bit sluggish compared to the newer cars today. I got a price of $199 for the 3.73 gears, and aroun $350 for the installation. I dont have that kind of dough to lose gas mileage for a quicker car. I still drive it on long trips. I think i might go with the Diablo performance chip with a MAC cold air intake. That should help a bit, untill i graduate in august of 2004, then i can get something nice like a Mustang GT, or the Honda Civic Si. If Ford made the mustang a 4 cylinder car for cheaper insurnce purposes, and if it could do 0-60 in 7.2 and get at leats 24mpg city, then i would go with that, but that honda V-tec is amazing. I'm an American all the way, but if it starts to hurt my wallet, then i will have to jump ship to a more affordable vehicle.

Miss Mischief
Doing the mathmatical conversion a 302 is a 4.9 and a 351 is a 5.7. Since Chevy's 350 is also 5.7 Ford bumpped it up one to a 5.8 L. And the 4.9 up to a 5.0. So the 302 is a 5.0 a Chevy 350 is a 5.7 and a Ford 351 is a 5.8. I was just curious because down here everyone put chevy engines into everything but chevys. |
and everyone puts ford rearends in everything else but fords

Its getting scary over here there is a butt load of 13-15 second imports with just bolt ons and slicks. |
Average should be mid 15's at least. I have seen good drivers with no spare tire and no jack get 14.96 in the quarter.
|
Mid 15's is nowhere near average for a V6 stang.
Nevermind, I dont even know what I am doing in this forum. Later, |
you are not gonna get into the 14's unless you have some mods
|
A stock 99 with spare and jack removed can get into the HIGH 14's. Now 1994 - 1998 should be mid 16's in the quarter.
|
you are not gonna get into the 14's by dropping 15 to 20 pounds
now maybe if you drop the 15'to 20 pounds and add a cold air intake and dual exhaust |
Why do all of yall have problems with a V6 running with the older V8's? The 1999 and later V6's have 25 HP-35 HP less than 94-98 Gts but has 200 lbs less than those years. That makes up for alot. Not all of it but alot of it. PLus some of the V6's have 3.27's stock while the V8's have 2.73's.

I have seen 99+ V6 stangs spraying a 75 shot and running high 14's and I seen a guy spray a hundred shot and run a 14.4. Mostly what I see is V6 stangs getting spanked by many a car length. When my 5.0 was stock it ran a 15.2 and I never even came close to losing to a V6 stang. I am just calling it like I see it. |
