4 banger springs in a vert? Dumb or no?
I'm looking to get a little extra ET from my 1991 GT vert. I was thinking about throwing in a set of 4 banger springs. I wouldn't even worry about it, if it was a hardtop but I'm worried that the extra weight of the vert will totally **** up the handleing. How much lower will the vert sit? Will it make driving it totally dangerous? The car will have skinnys and no front sway bar, so I'm not worried about handleing.
What do you guys think? |
A stock 2.3L comes with no rear sway bar and soft shock/strut valving as well as WEAK springs....as you well know from driving one, they handle worse than a crown victoria (non handling package) or any 70's land barge.
I don't think there's much more dangerous driving that you can do other than a stock 2.3L, so heck why not :D ...ok being serious, i took off the front sway bar off of my GT and it would seriously understeer, throw in weak springs and drag race valving and my car will handle like crap. Just keep in mind WHAT the car's limitations are and reduce your speed driving around because it's much harder to correct if you misjudge a corner or have to do an evasive manuever. I would personally do it, but i'd also drive more carefully and closer to the speed limit than i would in a car that handles well. It's all about what you're willing to compramise and live with. |
Actually when I had my 85 lx 2.3 it handled very well. They are much lighter in the front thus are balanced better.

I say go for it. Just leave your sway bar on till you go to the track.

I drive my car every day with 70/30s, no sway bar, and 4cyl springs with no problem whatsoever.
It sits about 1.5" lower than what it did with the stock springs, and looks good at that height. Yours being a vert shouldn't be that much different. Just spend a day with both of your cars in the garage, and swap the front springs. If you dont like the way the vert handles, then just swap the springs back. But I doubt you'll have any problems, and if you do, then you are a wussie Josh  And if you think the vert springs are too stiff or make the 2.3 car sit too high, I'll give you my stock springs with 1 coil cut for shipping costs. |
Do you think I would have any rubbing problems if I ran 4 cyl springs with 245/35/17's? on my 88 coupe?
