Hollow Rattle in 98 GT Convertible

Hello all.

I have a hollow rattle in my 98 GT Convertible. It's coming from either inside the dash, near the firewall, low near the tranny, etc. But it's slowly getting louder.

Engine on or off doesn't seem to matter.

My mechanic checked motor mounts, shocks, struts, bearings, bushings, etc. All checked out fine.

It seems to be closer to the driver than those things.

It's louder inside the car than outside.

It can rattle pretty rapidly. It's worse when I hit the brakes and stop hard, forward or reverse.

Any ideas? I could sure use the help. It's driving me crazy.

I had the same problem w/ mine, it turned out to be the clutch pedal vibrating, especially when I took turns, it got progressively worst, the way to check it is too place a little pressure on the clutch pedal when you hear the rattling, if it goes away, then you'll know, I eneded up replacing the clutch quadrant and putting on a firewall adjuster and that solved the problem. Let me know if this helps. :)

Hey EC,
Mine's automatic, so it doesn't have a clutch plate, unless I'm misunderstanding.
It sounds like something that should be tight has come loose.
But thanks for your input!
