Check your distributor cap and rotor for corrosion or carbon tracking, or physically broken things.. Make sure all of your plugwires are routed and connected right, and aren't physically damaged. Make sure your plugs are in decent shape.
Also...this was true on my old V6 and I assume it's true on most any EFI....
If you're not firing on any cylinder ,you should hear TICKING coming from the engine..generally sounds in the valve-cover region. And the car will sound "funny" from the exhaust, but still kinda normal maybe UNTIL you rev it LIGHTLY and it backfires and sounds shitty. Caution...if you're running on down cylinders, revving it IS dangerous...the unburnt air and fuel mixture leaving your exhaust pipes COULD be ignited by a backfire, causing an explosion..NOT GOOD!!!
