What Pressure for Drag Radials?
What pressure range should I run BFG 275/40/17 drag radials at?
Consider my 5-liter has a road-race suspension and weight transfer will be non-existent. Btw, I'm running at California Speedway this Saturday in a Cobra owners / NASA event. Thx, Russ |
Hey Russ,
Unfortunately you've got a pretty 'thin' sidewall, so any tire wrinkle will be virtually non-existant. Of course all the BFD drag radials have a steel sidewall. I ran mine at 16-18 psi on a stock suspension and only managed a best of 1.91 (see sig). Alot of 2.0's so I think alot of it has to do with the suspension (the main reason I am upgrading my suspension this spring). Your best bet would be to have a nice sticky track with lots of VHT compound and a 'ride the clutch out' method of launching. Good luck and let us know how you do. E |
Last season I ran my DR's at 16 psi. All of my runs were 2.0xx 60' times with a best of 2.01 on stock suspension.

Well, I'm assuming you mean "what to set" for a drag racing application..........If your draggin'...this is how you set optimum pressure.....start pressure OBVIOUSLY low.......make a pass, look at 60 foot, add 2 pounds pressure, make another pass...all at the same launch RPM, look at 60 foot, keep adding 1 to 2 pounds pressure until you blow the tires away on launch, then drop 'em a pound or so and that should be optimum.......If you meant for road racing.........say so, and Ill explain proper setup for that.

I have tried everything from 10psi to 35psi. And I can tell you they all suck. My best is 1.91 60 on 17in(Granted I expected this with 17inDR, its why i got slicks). I say 25 psi and baby it out of the hole.
