Power Steering Rebuild

OK, let me get this out. #$%*@ power steering! I've really had it with the leaks and parts going out. The latest is my pump has developed a leak and the pulley seems to be bent. I have no idea how that happened.

My question is: Has anyone rebuilt the pump and any advice on rebuilding?

I think the ford system sucks. I converted my ranchero to manual steering about a year ago, I never looked back. The effort is high at a stop but moving its nice, because it was a p/s car, the ratio is acualy pretty quick. My wife drives this car, complains a little, but she can do it, I just say a little upper body work out never hurt anyone!

The pump isn't hard to rebuild, but you will need a pulley puller and then fab up a pully press. A gear puller will just bend it into the shape of a horse shoe. On the pump, pay attention to the order of the internal plates and which way they face. I managed to put the second stage in backwards. It still pumped oil, but had no pressure. Had to take it apart and rebuild it again.

Thanks for the advice thunderbolt, I think I have it all back together right and no leaks. I also went with custom made teflon steel hoses. Hopefully, the header can't melt that.

Thanks again for your help.
