Best Crate Engines?
I might be swaping out my 5.0 for a rebuilt 5.0 crate engine b-cuz its faster and easier than doing everything urself. so my question is who makes the best crate engines and list their websites or #'s plez!

I'd use your bottom end, or get a motor used off ebay or a junkyard ot wherever and have it built up the way you want it. I'd probably use the stock block/crank/rods and have everything checked/bored .030 and have the rods shotpeened/polished and go with a set of good .030 pistons. You could talk to a machine shop about a good combo and go buy whatever heads/intake/cam/roller rockers and have them build the motor up with new bearings, seals, etc. I'm sure you'd be able to have something put together that would be way better for the price of a stock or GT-40 crate motor. You could also check out ebay or do a search online and look at some engine builders sites, some of them have decent deals on prety built motors.

I agree that for the money you could build up something better than what you will get in a crate engine.
But, to address your question. I have the GT-40 crate motor from Ford. I can't compare it to other crates since this is the only one I have used, but after 5 years and about 50,000 miles, I have no complaints with mine. |
DSS and Coast High Performance make good ones :)

www.neweraperformanceparts.com can get good deals on coast high performance crate engines , they will usually give $100-$200 off everything on coast high's web site because they are a dealer.

Look at www.mustangengines.com
Look at www.mustangengines.com
They do complete crate engines. They even send you a video of your engine being run on an engine dyno. |
I know a couple of guys that have D.S.S. crate motors and there was a recent write up in one of the Mustang Mags here's the link:
