To Kill an American...

To Kill an American

You may have missed it in the rush of news last week, but someone in
Pakistan published a newspaper advertisement offering a reward to anyone
who killed an American, any American. In response, an Australian dentist
wrote the following description to let everyone know what an American is,
so they would know when they found one. (Good on ya, mate!!!!)

An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish,
Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican,
African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or
Arab, or Pakistani, or Afghan. An American may also be a Cherokee, Osage,
Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known
as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In
fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only
difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them
chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he
will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming
to speak for the government and for God.

An American is from the most prosperous land in the history of the world.
The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of
Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person the
pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other
nation in the world in their time of need. When Afghanistan was overrun by
the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to
enable the people to win back their country! As of the morning of September
11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in
Afghanistan.

Americans welcome the best, the best products, the best books, the best
music, the best food, the best athletes. But they also welcome the least.
The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired
and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless,
tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America. Some of
them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2002
earning a better life for their families. I've been told that the World
Trade Center victims were from at least 30 other countries, cultures, and
first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General
Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and every bloodthirsty tyrant in the
history of the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself.
Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They
are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to
that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Yeah, thank you. With hearing about how so many people hate America, it's really great to read things like this. I hope more posts like this pop up.

Yesterday on the local radio station, a caller called in and opened up a can of whoop-*** on anti-war people. She is a young lady that was born in Iraq and moved over here to become a citizen. It was an awesome speach. I wish I could of recorded it so ya'll can hear it too. I'll try to get a copy some how.

BUMP!

BU-BU-BU-BUMP BAYBEE! lol awsome post. I heard a while back about a canadian radio host talking about americans in this same fashion. Saying how we help lots of countries then no one helps us ect. It was good stuff, just as good as this but a little different. Anyone know what i'm talkin' about? It was after 9/11 and it had to do with like how no other countries sent help (firefighters, police, etc.) to us but we send help to everyone. But at the end he said something like, "Well I'll tell you what America, this is one Canadian that has a ton of respect for you folks, God Bless America" that's how he ended his radio show. Pretty cool.

the statement above is so true. this country is one big melting pot of different cultures and ideas. that is what makes this country so great, i think. people of different cultures through out the years have brought to america different ideas on how to do things. when you have a vast pot of answers to choose from in trying to solve a given problem, you more likely to solve the problem in the best possilbe way when you have so many different ideas to choose from. i think that is one of the main reasons we have become such a successful nation in such a realatively short period of time. most of us in this country are a mixture of some other culture if we choose to look far enough back on our family trees.
i know i am 25% cherokee indian and 25% italian, i am not sure what the other 50% is. it is probably mean and short tempered.
:D

Canada sent many people to help in New York. Well, I'm not sure if they were actually sent by the government, but many people donated money, various items, clothing, food, etc. to help support the people who were helping to save people, or clean up the rubble etc. I know a bunch of volunteer firefighters from my home town who went to help, and they said they met many more people from Canada who were doing the same. There were blood donor clinics set up at my school. All of the planes which were diverted from U.S. air space to Canada, landed and local people allowed the passengers to stay in their homes. Canada did help with that.
