What year is your car and what year harness???

drtbiker 03-27-2003 10:08 AM

my car is a 87 the harness is coming out of a 91 i believe and the a9l is also coming out of a 91

That harness won't work in an 87 unless it is modified. You will need a 89 or 87-88 converted to maf harness. On the 91 check the driver sode of the harness where it plugs into the dash harness, by the self test plug, for either blk & gry plugs or one red plug. If you look on your car you should have the 2(blk & gry) plugs. I think the 91's had the one red plug unlike the 87-90's. And even though the 90 harness's had the 2(blk & gry) they won't work either, without some modifing. Been there done that swap. We tried to use a 90 harness in an 87 4-8 swap and the fuel pump wouldn't come on, swapped in an 89 harness and it fired right up. The modification to the 90 harness, I have never done, and not quite sure exactly how. But for I gathered you will have to run a wire to the fuel pump relay so it can get power when the key is on. Instead of doing that I just swapped harnesses...

Yes look at it again. Plug it all together and lay it in front of the car. Open the hood. Look at it again, kinda see where every thing is going to fall into place first. Now crank the engine, drive forward slowly about ten feet. now back up to your original position. Turn the wheel so that you will wind up about a foot and a half from where you just stopped on the last foward lunge. Repeat this about twenty times, I will feel much better in the morning.;)

LOL!

I took 88workcar's advice, when I was thinking of MAF-ing my car. Now I'm still the proud owner of a Speed Density Mustang, and I can sleep at night...

:D

If you can get the whole harness you need for $60,I would go that route. Hech the maf jumper harness from IST is $50. Most of the engine harness's go for atleast $100 in good shape. Call Mustang Parts Specialty in Winder GA and see what hey want:eek: I say get the other harness for $60 and sell the one you have.....
