camshaft dowel pin??
 

well i have my motor down to the last 2 thrust bolts, just waiting on my cam to come in.
where is the dowel pin located? is it the black plate thing thats bolted to the sprocket? just want to make sure there is no little parts im overlooking, my first heads/cam swap, but so far so good to my knowledge......thanx.

The cam shaft dowel pin is loctaed on the cam itself. When you remove the timing chain and sprockets, you should see teh pin on the cam. Then remove the 2 bolts holding the retaining plate and the cam is ready to come out. You can use the long studded bolt form the water pump and thread it into the can to pull it out.

ok, i have the chain off though? i guess i need to look better at it, i didnt want to remove the stock cam until the e-cam comes in, does the pin just slide out? is it easy to lose, as in drop out without notice? see my car is parked in grass, and uhh well you know, i cant afford to drop anything small or i wont find it easily.

The cam dowel should be wedged in the cam pretty tight. You can use a pair of pliers on it and gently wiggle it loose. Careful not to scratch the cam berings just incase you want to resell it.

Believe it or not, the Dowel pin in a Ford racing cam comes in a seperate little plastic bag and slips in easily. I spent some time prying the old one out of my old cam to discover later that the new pin was still in the box in the bag.

Not really. . . .you probably don't have a used dowel pin in the engine and a new one sitting on a shelf in the garage. I didn't find the new one till the engine was assembled. No way I was going back in there for that.
