mechanic says "no"
what is the cheapest way to lower my car about 1 1/2" without hindering performance on the strip? i talked to my mechanic and he said it wasnt safe to compress the springs and he didnt feel comfortable doing that for me. thanx :D

Your mechanic is a smart man. don't use any kind of "add-on" spring compressor or melt the springs to let them sag. If you're gonna do it, buy the springs and take comfort in knowing you did it the safe way.

Cutting down or compressing the springs with result in a stiffer ride. It may handle better but too stiff and you get wheel spin.
I've always liked going with a bigger wheel to give the illusion of lowering, without changing the geometry of the suspension or ride height. |
Put 4 cyl springs in it. Not the best for corners but it will lower the front some and alot of drag cars are useing them.

Heating them will also make them brittle. Best bet is to by springs

I put 4cyl springs on the front of mine, and it sits about 1.5-2" lower in the front. It also helps weight transfer greatly, so it will actually help your perfomance at the strip. Just gotta get used to the looser handling that it brings.
I bought my springs used for like $30 off the corral classifieds |
