Grr, this e303 cam is frustrating in my 95stang
I'm getting to the point where I just want to do a cam swap on my newly built 302 motor but i'd hate to do all this work when I just put the new motor in a week ago. Can someone please go over how to fix this damn idle problems with the e303 cam on my 95 mustang? Thanks a lot
I'm not a mechanic and don't know a lot about how to do this step by step, i've read a few posts on how to fix this but it doesn't seem to work for me... the real kicker is when i've tried to set my TPS to 0.97 Volts at idle im noticing my reading if 4.9 Volts at idle and 0.9 Volts at WOT.... wtf is going on? :mad: :confused: :( Please help me! :D |
There is an idle adjuster that was a fix for idle problems in the 80's for the windsor engines that is sandwiched between the IAC and Throttle body that doesn't cost much and you can adjust your idle speed with that. You can also buy it through various mail order companies like Year One and Mustangs unlimited i believe. If you check Alldata. com under TSB's you may find the TSB and part number for the problem, and you can order it through a ford dealership as well if you felt like it. I've heard a few people say that bumping the idle up helps keep a better signal for the PCM to follow, especially with the E-cam.
I set my TPS with the engine off, key on and set it to .98 volts and it was around 4.9 at WOT and it works fine for me. |
well, you might try replacing tps, have you checked all the vaccuum hoses? how does the car run? do you run rich or lean? do you have a fuel pressure regulator?

When is the last time you cleaned the IAC? It can build up carbon over time and restrict it's movement or stop it altoghterwhich will adversely affect your idle. You having surging problems I assume. Get a vaccum gague and check your intake manifold vacumm some where close to your T/B. You should have at least 15 inches of vaccum at idle with a E-cam, if not you might have a leak, ANY un-metered air entering the system will confuse the computer and cause idle problems.

Your readings are backwards - you are probably using the wrong wires to read the voltage - here is a test procedure that may help..........

Good luck on getting your stang to idle right. I have a '94 GT with that cam and it was a PITA to get it to idle decent. I tried many things and even new TPS sensors. I checked vacuum lines and anything else you could possible think of. I ended up getting a custom chip burned for it and it idled like a dream. It was well worth the $200 spent. If you didnt buy the cam and was looking I would have suggested something different. Its all in the lobe separation. I think the E-303 is around 109-110 and stock is 112. There are a lot of cams out there that are better with a closer lobe sep. But since you already have the cam in I would look into getting a chip or even buy an EEC tuner like Tweecer. That way you can always go back and make changes accordingly. After that chip was in, I was able to set idle around 700 and it idled very consistently. Good Luck!
