300 rwhp, Is it possible?

I would like a combination (302) that would make 300 rwhp. I'm going with the 58cc AFR 165 heads, and possibly an Edelbrock Performer intake w/24lb injectors, 190 pump.

The car is my 86GT with 1 5/8" Long tubes, 2 1/2" cat pipe, 2 1/2" exhaust. It's got 3.73's, and subframes, and will have control arm soon. What would it run at 3400 lbs w/driver?

Drag4money 01-13-2001 01:40 PM

I was just over 300 rwhp with this combo on a stock 5.0 bottom end in my 94 driver...

70mm T/b
75mm Pro-m
T/F track heat intake
T/F Stage 1 Cam (1.6 rockers)
T/F Track heat heads (170int) 61 cc chambers
1 5/8 equal shorties
2 1/2 mac
paxton fpr
24# inj
155LPH intank
Extender
6AL

Hope this info helps you out

the stang analizer says that 300hp in a 3400lb car would put you at about 13.08@104mph, im not sure if it uses rwhp or if you need actual engine hp to calculate it, probably rwhp because if you think about it, 96-98cobras have 305bhp and dont run close to 13.0

Yeah, I checked it out, and I figured that all I'd need to do is lighten the car and myself a little and I could hit 12's. But the combo is what I need to get 300rwhp. I know which suspension components I want, and how to lighten the car, its just the combo, too many things to choose from I guess...

With the AFR heads is should be easy. I'm making more than 325hp/350ft-lbs with unported GT-40P's, GT-40 intake, .500" lift cam and shorty headers. The AFR's have some fantastic flow numbers and look to be great head. They're pretty new to the market, but if you watch the NMRA Pure Street guys this year I think you'll see some running some pretty impressive numbers with the AFR's.

Be carefule what you put on that bottom end. You really can't go too crazy because if it is original it has flat top pistons...

Daily driver: 89 notch with 200K plus, BBK shorties,offroad,2-chamber flowmasters with dumps, cut and welded stock shifter...and it runs like a champ.

Drag4money 01-14-2001 03:59 PM

The combo I listed above was good for a
12.77 @ 105.3
The car is 3525lbs
Rear is 3.73
One drawback was I was on Borrowed ET streets which were 29 inches tall, I think I coulda lowered the short time abit with a shorter tire...

Hope this info helps too...

I would be curious to compare the TFS head with the AFR you are all speaking of. After all the TFS has larger runners and a larger intake valve size...

would be some good info to know!!

exgmguy 01-14-2001 05:15 PM

Did you guys dyno on a Mustang dyno, or a Dynojet?

86GT 01-14-2001 06:50 PM

The bottom end is not the one from the 86, that one is still in the car in running condition, I'm doing the transplant during my spring break.

I was wondering, if I can't get the AFR heads, what about a combo with TFS TW heads and an e-brock intake? I'd eventually like to put a 100 shot of NOS on it too. Any thoughts on that? The cam is the main thing I'm worried about selecting, custom is too much money, but I'm not sure which off the shelf one will work well...

use the f cam

The '92 in my sig makes approximately 335 rwhp N/A. I know this because my buddy put a car together, a 92 coupe with a holley systemax stage 2 kit and an S-trim. Anyway, same trannies and rears, the first night he got the car running we went on the highway, and from 20 to 130 we were neck and neck, didn't inch each other...two days later he dynoed the car. The first pull was 335 rwhp, and he didn't change a thing from when we ran two days earlier. After the third pull, he was making 471 rwhp at 6200. Anyway, it is possible.

I was wondering because I have a 302 w/ TFS heads ported to a 1262, matching GT-40, E-303, 65mm, 24 lb'ers, and a C&L 73.

I made 270 at the wheels on a Mustang Eddy current dyno. I understand dynojets read a tad hgher.

My car weighs 2950 with me in it and trapped 111 mph. How much do the two dynos differ?

88workcar 01-16-2001 10:54 PM

Mine is 339hp. Plus 100 more on the juice. It went 11.72 @ 109 missing fifth gear on the juice.

I appreciate the advice so far everyone!! Keep it coming! I've got a few more q's though, what about an all Trick Flow top end? TW heads, track heat intake, and stg. 1 cam? What kinda power would that make?

Also, is the Holley Systemax worth considering?

SaleenGTS 01-17-2001 11:13 AM

The hp calculator on here is BHP....I am pretty sure. I dynoed 308 rwhp, and weigh around 3200 w/o me. My best ET so far was a 12.70 @ 111. Holley is OK for a mild street kit...the intake is Great for a blown car, but other than that the heads and cam SUCK IMO.

86...

Did you even read my post??
The combo you just asked about, is the one I am running on the 94 I posted above..

it was good for just over 300rwhp and a mid 12 second pass @ 105

I'm curious about the heads your running. You say they are track heat heads. Am I correct in assuming that they are the TW heads for sale from Summit, etc. I think part number 51400002 right? I like your numbers, they are great, how's the drivability? And as for the track heat intake, does it have a CARB number?
