One last question,,,
Hypothetical of course..... Because this would be illegal, according to federal laws..
If a person were to remove all the pollution control crap (vaccum lines, pumps, and anything else) including the EGR valve.. would that hurt performance or negatively effect an 84 motor???? Do we actually need all those vacuum lines and breathers and other 'who knows whats'??? think of how nice the engine compartment would look without them... ------------------ Black, 84 GT, T5, ground effects, shorty headers, dual exh., rear spoiler from a 87.. All my stuff is gone but I don't have emissions checks or testing here in PA http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif and it does makes the engine bay so much cleaner, I deleted everything I could but the EGR is still there. I would say on a carbed car it will not hurt performance, the old muscle cars do not have them, you will need some of the vacuum lines though for you advance and such.

thx rick, we don't have emissions here either.. so having only the necessary vac lines (brakes, vac advance and that should be about it).....
how did you block the holes at the back of the heads or don't you have them?? ------------------ Black, 84 GT, T5, ground effects, shorty headers, dual exh., rear spoiler from a 87.. In the works; 4:10's, 89 ported heads, edelbrock Performer, matched cam and holley carb (?? size) |
It's kind of funny, all my emissions stuff seems to have fallen off my car... (actually most of it was gone when I bought the car) After a couple of engine swaps I figured that either you use all of your emissions gear, or none at all so I took what was remaining off (after all it needs all the components to be working together). I still get 25mpg on the highway and 15-17mpg in the city, and believe me, I don't think my performance is suffering. Of course there is no smog testing in my area.
IMHO The car manufacturers were forced by federal law to put all the emissions crap on knowing that it hindered both performance and fuel economy, I don't believe that these systems are very effective without a computer to monitor them. The newer cars emissions gear is effective and if there is a problem the computer will find it and attempt to adapt or will store a trouble code. ------------------ GT-40 heads (ported, polished, + milled), B303 cam, 1.7rr's, JE pistons, Offy intake, Carter AFB 625cfm carb, Flowtech 1 5/8" shortys, Flowtech X-pipe, MAC Flowpath exhaust, MAC pulleys, 373's, subframes, Eibachs+Tokicos, B&M ripper, FMS Clutch, Zoom Quadrant+cable, 17" CSA Ultra rims, 235/45ZR17 Yokohama AVS S4's, MSD 6A ignition+coil, FMS 9mm wires, Carbed, Naturally Aspirated, and Nasty! |
For the holes at the back of the head, just go to a machine shop and ask for the accessory plugs that thread into the holes (these are the same as the ones that thread into the front of the head for the alternator bracket and the P/S A/C brackets) they cost about $2.75 a piece and work like a charm.
