got a few ??????
My car has bin sitting for a few mouths and now its time to get it inspected what should I do? I already set the timing at 10 put some alcohol in the gas put on the cats. Does having dirty oil matter? and is 50w oil too much for my engine

Well I don't know too much but I know I read that an 87GT is good on 10W-30 oil...and though it's not needed a high performing synthetic is a nice bonus. Keeps my car running smooth.

Where are you at? Do you have to pass a smog test, or just a visual inspection? Do a search for inspections or something like that....this topic comes up often here and there should be all sorts of info on this site.

I've never heard of checking the oil as part of the inspection, and I've lived in MA and NY, both of wich are pretty strict... though it's possible it's a step they just ignore since it's just silly.
You should just change you oil anyway if it's dirty... that's just good maintenance... and as for 50 weight... I dont think it's BAD... but it's thicker.. depends on where you live.. if it's hot all year round then it's probably not bad... but multiweight oils are good in cold climates, it keeps the oil thin so when you start up it can move around quick and then thickens up when it gets hot. I used to run 70w in my first car in highschool cause the engine was so worn it wouldnt keep oil pressure... but I tell ya.. it worked wonders.. that oil light didnt go on anymore ... -as |
i live in southern new york so i have the smog test and my question about the dirty oil is will that affect emissions at all i have never had a problem before but this tome my car has bin sitting since november

unless you're burning oil, you should be fine... though if you are burning it it'll probablay fail, clean or dirty...
I used to live on Long Island... -as |
