rear end question
When it is cold out and I first drive the car I get a slight squeeling noise from the rear of the car. After I drive about 200 feet it goes away and does not return unless the car sets for several hours. I noticed today that if I slightly turn the steering wheel in either direction that I get some mild vibration from the rear of the car, kinda like when driving on a concrete bridge. If you turn hard it goes away, just feel it when the weight starts to shift. Does this sound like an axle bearing going bad or a bad pinion bearing?

mustangdaren,
If your bearing are shot at the axles or the pinion, eventually the seals are going to leak and you'll know it! I think your problem might be (internally) with the differential. You can take it to a shop that specializes in rear-ends and they'll do an oil change (which usually includes a visual inspection of the rear-end) for about $45. Phil |
It has a fairly new Auburn HD diff installed about a year ago. Probably has 3500 miles on it. I will probably change the oil in it this weekend to check for gear wear.

mustangdaren,
Did you use friction modifier? If you don't, you will get weird noises and vibrations! Phil http://store.summitracing.com/global...ms-m19546a.jpg |
