Carb and head ???'s

You guys (and gal's) have been great and your help is appreciated....

was thinking last night about the 89 heads I am putting on my car, If I increase the pistons to 9:1 compression 84 spec's, are the head cc's different in 89?? increasing the compression more than 9:1????

or am I being peranoid (sp)....

Also, the Holley carb I originally intended to order was a 600 (was going to order it today), is that going to be enough or maybe a 650 or 700???

the planned engine mod's should keep me happy for a while, next step will be NOS...

thx again...

I believe the chamber volume of the 89 heads is 62cc. You can use an equation to determine any changes.

A 600 cfm carb should be plenty.

Check out www.prestage.com. On the left, click on 'Car Math'. It has some equations that may help.

hey there with your mods a 600 will work great i am running a 0-1850s on mine got a great deal working at autozone nice discount.. and look at my mods.. when u go to newer headsi think they have a bigger combustion chamber and smog drilled.. thats why i went with early casting that way they had 58 cc chambers to bump my comp to 10-1...

The '84 5.0L heads i believe are around 68cc's whereas the later ones (as mentioned by Moxie) are 62cc's. You won't need to get different pistons to get a 9:1 CR (If i read your post correctly, you're considering getting domed pistons???).

not necessarily domed, the stock pistons have two sets of valve reliefs.... the pistons I ordered were 9:1 (assuming either no valve reliefs or maybe one set??) at 84 302 spec's, and with the smaller chamber on the 89 heads, I was just wondering if that would increase the compression and 600 cfm would be ok....
