Emergency Brake?
 

My emergency brake has been broken for like 2 years. When I lift it up its very loose and goes straight up but it doesnt do anything. I have an automatic and I dont usually park on hills or anything so I havent given it much worry. But I am thinking maybe one of these days I should fix it. Do you know what's involved in fixing it or has anyone had similar problems with the e brake? Thanks. http://66.227.101.70/otn/happy/wave.gif

Sounds like a broken cable.. or disconnected cable... the cable goes from that lever and then atatches to aanother cable that is attached to both brake drums, so any part of that system could be off.. if you're lucky it's just the Y connection to the rear cable... you'll have to crawl around and see what's going down under there.. it's not really hard just a pain to crawl around under there... worst case you'll replace some cables..

Not necessarily, the cable, see mustang e-brake levers are spring loaded, now if the spring broke, there would be no tension on the cable, hence, it won't engage the rear brakes. I have had one break on me before, just check to see if cables are broken, if not then you will need a whole new e-brake lever. Let me know and I will tell you how to install a new lever

Where abouts under the car should I look for the cables? :confused:

Pretty much in the center then goes out to the wheels, your cables start above the driveshaft, so you won't see them that well, but they are easy to find. After you find them, just follow them back to the wheels, if they did break, should be easy to find out.
