Ram Air
I have recently bought a 2002 GT, and my initial reaction when I opened the hood, was that I had to make that scoop on the hood functional. I want to cut out a hole under the scoop, and place a hose to an open element filter. I am sure this must have been thought of or tried before, any positive or negative comments are appreciated, thanks

It's called the shaker hood from the Mach One...
There might be some conversion kits out there... |
I thought about that too, but the thing is, that scoop is just a stick on. Your hood is actually flat, like the v6 version. If you look unser your hood it is heat guarded, to keep your paint from melting or peeling away etc. Even if you cut through your metal hood, you would need to re-apply the heat guard to the top of the scoop, then you have to figure out how to mount the scoop even more secure than it is stock b/c there will be alot of pressure from wind resistance, I would see it being ripped right off. After all that, buy a grill for the scoop. Then you can either leave it open to the engine, will a little bit more cooling. Or you can run an intake through your stock intake. All in all the performance difference would be very slight, especially for the buck and time, and it would only be at higher speeds up toward 60 - 70 mph where there would be, if any, difference. If its somthing that you realy want to do, go for it, but I would save my money and time for other performance product.

I sent them an e-mail weeks ago and never got a response back, thanks for reminding me, I'll try them again

Kar Kraft no longer makes it. It was WAY overpriced anyway due to BS carbon fiber. Also, sad to say, but the scoop is thin plastic and not held on very securely. When you delete the honycomb, you take away A LOT of the retention force. The scoop will bow up at speed and may likely rip off or break. You would have to fab a center mount retainer post at the front edge of the scoop.

Would this be easier with the 2000 and earlier models? I have a center scoop, but its smaller and is indented rather than sticking out of the hood. Kind of an "inny" instead of an "outy".
That kit wouldnt work on it, but might be able to rig somthing... -xto |
So youre saying you have the flat, "scoopless" V6 hood? Show pics.

This might be the V6 hood, I don't know. But I'm pretty sure its the stock hood (2000 GT).
It doesn't have a scoop sticking up, but there is an indentation down the center of the hood that ends in a fake plastic intake-lookin type thing. Heres a pic (if this works...) -xto |

Thats the standard hood 99-00. Roush used to have a ram kit for that, but no longer.
