help changin' out my exhaust
 

I'm looking to put new exhaust on my car... I've got a '97 GT... now I know this is all elementary school kids stuff to you guys, but I'm new at this so cut me some slack ok ;)

I've been lookin' at getting a set of Flowmasters... would there be a better exhaust system to go with?

now knowing that I'm not a mechanic how hard is this gonna be for me to do myself? ...or am I gonna have to get somebody who really knows what they're doing? ...basically is it easy or hard to change? ...what all will I need to do it?

hey gt 96 here flows were my first exhaust upgrade if i did it again i would go with a mac catback! flows have a little better sound but performance wise go with mac catback dont just do mufflers you wont get anything out of it! but sound unless thats all your goin for! then for 140 more buy a off road x pipe you will be very impressed with sound and performance between 33 and 55 rpms. mufflers probably have someone else do that exhause is easy to do if you have air tools i would say do it your self!

how much more will all that run me? ...and are the x-pipes easy to install?

Get either an H-Pipe or X-Pipe and as for mufflers, Spin Tech. The loudest mufflers I have ever heard and they give the mist h.p. The pipe will run you about $140 and the mufflers around $65 a piece. Alot cheaper than flowmasters which I had but got rid of them cause I couldnt stand them. Everyone has them so I wanted something different. The pipe you can do on your own on a weekend with a buddy but the mufflers get someone to do for you. Good Luck....

ok... so what's the deal with the mufflers? ...why should I get someone else to do them for me?

If you get a Cat back system, MAC, BBK, Flowmaster, BASSANI etc... You can do it yourself on jack stands with hand tools. The X or H pipe is no problem ( need long extension and air impact )untill you get to the drivers side O2 sensor, it is a ***** to get back in. Other than that just be carefull under the car while it is jacked up.

I would suggest the following...

If you buy a cat-back: Stainless tips are the way to go.

If your not mechanically inclined or don't want to be bothered with it: Buy the cat-back and have some one install it for you, welded of course. It's not that expensive.

I have a Magnaflow system but I had Mac stainless mufflers installed. Just a sound preference for me.

Again, just opinion...and experience.

By the way...I have an original TAMA rosewood piccolo snare drum for sale, new condition...Had to put that in there:)

ok so I've got another question... lol... explain a cat-back system... I'm not familiar with the term...

...and how much would it cost to have it installed by someone else?

Exhaust system from the catalytic converters back...It cost me $80.00 to have the sytem welded in...
