Long tube headers

I was wondering if I should go with long tubes or shorties on my 98 gt. I already have the powerdyne supercharger in the mail, so I be supercharging.

My question is: Will the long tubes give me more power and if they are legal?

Thanks in advance guys.

please use the search function.....

Oh just answer him. Repeating threads is not a bad thing.

New members with new information could have joined since the last time there was a post on any given subject, and new begginers (like me) might not know what to search for, so it helps to see old subjects re-posted (at least it helps me).

Also, new products are constanty being introduced, so it never hurts to go back to an old subject.

All this IMHO of course.

If I knew anything about headers, I would help....

Shorties are almost worthless on a mod motor, so if you are going to get headers go with longtubes. I felt a decent gain with them on my N/A '00 GT. They are not smog legal, though. One other thing to think about is ground clearance - my stang is lowered a little less than 2" up front and about 1.5" out back and I only have about 3" clearance under the longtubes.

But when the same questions come up almost weekly, ie "Gains from a CAI?" or "What Gears should I get?" people get tired of answering.

If there was some great breakthrough, I wouldn't short change a new guy, believe me. How hard is it to think, "Hmm, I've got a question about long tubes, so maybe is should search 'long tubes' in the 'mod maddness' forum?

Seems like the new guys want everthing done for them. IMHO, of course.

LT Headers

I would go with the LT's b/c they'll give you more HP then you would think if you are running a Supercharger. They gave the 03 cobra 50hp with just puting on the LT's. Also make sure that you get the H-pipe without the Cat's on them and prolly go with some flowmasters..

You calling me lazy? All asked was a simple question that pertained to my particular situation.

I thought that is what we were all here to do was talk about mustangs.

LTs are a great mod.

The PROs - great gains, deeper sound
The CONs - not smog legal and ground clearance

Hopefully someone on here will pass their experience on the CONs. I personally think the clearance thing is the biggest issue, again for me.

As for using the SEARCH function. You will find a lot of answers to the more basic questions, but we'll still answer those basic questions.

Welcome.

Thanks Smoke,

I'm gonna go with the long tubes to get the power and sound that I want. There are no smog test done down here in 'da bayou' so it won't be a problem.

Thanks for the help.

The Deuce 05-11-2003 02:48 AM

There are some new lt's that help the clearance issue. Thanks for reminding me of that SMOKE, I'll look for them tomorrow.

I have BBK l/t's on mine, catted BBK h, and Bassani cat-back. My car is lowered w/ Steeda Sport springs. I only scrape on sharp inclines. It's usually easy to avoid. Granted, I don't drive my Mustang every day. The install is a huge PITA, but I'd rather do it myself than pay several hundred dollars. We did it in my dad's garage w/ no lift, we did have air tools. Took us most of the weekend, and we had never done headers before on anything. Dropped the k-member for this.

Did you have to take off the heads? I don't mind that but if i am going to take of the heads then I might as well get some pi heads and intake to put back on.

Badass_yellowGT 05-20-2003 09:54 PM

you will not have to remove the head but will need to jack the engine up for access

:D

Badass_yellowGT 05-21-2003 09:12 PM

what is is with people ranking on the shorties test show that long tubes make a minimal gain over the shorties and with shorties your not scraping ever time you pull up a incline
