The Matrix - Reloaded

Oh yes! After all this waiting. Just got finished watching it.

I am pretty critical when it comes to movies. I may be blinded on this one by how much I loved the first one, but Reloaded was really well done. Awesome movie. The movie itself and scenes with in the movie just got more and more intense. Not at all a let down in any way. I would have selected some music that was a little more intense than in one particular fight scene (which I won't mention), but someone did it for a reason and it was at least satisfactory. Oh, and there is one other very small part that I noticed, but you have to be observant to see it. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints. Oh and there was this awesome preview of Terminator 3. That is next on my list to see. Money well spent!!!

After credits, there is a short preview of The Matrix - Revolutions ;)

Yes! That movie was awesome. I went and saw it last night. I was impressed for some parts, but other parts you could tell it was computer animation much too easily. Aside from that, damn that movie makes you think. lol. I can't wait til sept. when the 3rd one comes out and I can see how much I wasn't paying attention in this one (like I said, it really makes you think, very deep).

I gave it a thumbs up, but it's still not as good as the original.

Saw it last night. Really good movie in my opinion. The visual effects are amazing. The chorography is also incredible. So go see it! ~Brian

I personaly thought it failed in comparison to the original Matrix. It was good, but not that good. A little slow, some fight scenes were just put in to fill time and they had no real point, the new characters are arbetrary and conviluded, and what was with the scene in the beginning?! All i could think was " BAD MUSIC! DANCING! AND SEX! AND MORE BAD MUSIC! AND SEX AND SEX AND DANCING!~ CRAP THE BAD MUSIC IS STILL THERE!! SHOOT ME!!!" That went on fort like 5 minutes.
OVer all not bad, but the first movie made this one lok to watered down. Worth the $ just wanted it to be better.

Light Em Up!!!:):) :(

Yeah, the bad music in particularly one fight scene (won't say which, though) and the fish-getting-caught-on-the-hook-dancing in the pep rally kinda did suck. I'll have to agree with you on those. I don't want to say too much about the movie so I don't mess it up for anyone.

MidNiteBlu 5.0 05-18-2003 04:19 AM

I thought it was really good. It wasnt the action packed movie like the first but I think they needed to throw out all the talking parts in this one to build up to the next. Definently makes you think.

And what was so bad about the music? I thought the music was pretty damn good.

Fox Body 05-18-2003 12:21 PM

Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie. I'm just gonna be honest, though. For example, there was one fight scene (only one) where the music was like some type of 80's techno or something where it should have been something like, say, 90's death metal. It was a long fight scene and as the kept progressing, the music kinda changed and got better. And I actually liked all the talking parts. They gave good background and established relationships. SO you got more inside the human side of the matrix.

My positive criticism overwhelmingly outways my negative criticism, but I do have some more negatives.... but like I said b4, I don't wanna spoil it for anyone. If someone wants to create a spoiler thread with the warning written in the title than I don't mind discussing it in that thread....

'Matrix Reloaded' pros and cons

Matrix Reloaded is good science fiction with the usual movie flaws including some overlong fight scenes, overdone 'love' scenes and some very dense plotlines.

I really think the Wachowski brothers were making some of it up as they went along here but they do an interesting job of mixing up various intellectual, spiritual, & theological philosophies with Neo as a (sort of) Messiah, the Architect as 'God', the issue of whether 'free choice' can actually be a true free choice and 'Agent Smith' as a type of Satan and very dangerous to the Matrix with his ability to delete others minds and clone himself, thus making him able to eventually destroy the Matrix. The underground city (Zion) is also quite interesting (and has a vague bibical connection) as it holds the .1% of the people who don't accept the Matrix but it appears to be an another illusion, sort of a fall-back Matrix. After all, where did the fugitive humans get all the technology to run the city and what exactly does 'The Councilor' mean when he says that humans can't live without machines? Of course we also have the ancient 'What is Truth?' conundrum that is broached (yet again) by Morpheus when his beliefs are proven to be wrong.

The 'What is Real?' question always looms large in this series and renders it elusive yet compelling, a neat trick of filmaking for a fairly new team of writers and directors (the Brothers Wachowsk) with 'B-level' stars (Laurence Fishberne, Keanu Reeves) and mostly unknown actors in lesser roles, with the exceptions of Jada Pinkett Smith and the older character actor, Anthony Zerbe.

Then we have the issue of whether humans would 'evolve' (mentally) over 100 (or 600) years of stimulation by the Matrix and if so, Neo could now be where humans are capable of being in terms of mental power but right now, he apparently cannot accept it - or is Neo simply another creation of the Architect - a program - meant to kill the 'Mr. Smith' virus that could infect and destroy the Matrix?

On and on it goes, as good science fiction should. The Matrix Reloaded does makes you think (and can even have you believing you're on to some important 'truth') as well as entertains you - although I suspect that the entertainment value is driving ticket sales a lot more than the very dense and convoluted plot but considering most of the dreck that passes for entertainment today, The Matrix series is interesting filmed entertainment and worth watching. I liked it for what it was: an interesting, fantastic story; metaphysical elements mixed up with philosophy and religion and lots of fantastic fight scenes (as well as the unnecessarily long make-out scenes and other filler). 'Matrix - Revolution' should be great (I hope).

I thought It was great. I'm gonna see it again tonight. Good plot great story, really cool car chase.

The three hours of jumping, sexing, jumping, sexing, with crap for music was a bit over the top though.

I give it a 9.9 out of 10.

Mr 5 0. Wonderful review. What else can I say?? I love the points/implications/possibilities you brought up. The reason this movie has had such a big impact on me is mainly b/c of the underlying implications/subtleties/parallels. The action is not at all banal and the ideas and camera work is above ordinary. I am impressed by the writers and those who took part in putting it together.
