Trans ams and camaros are great cars. the only thing is everybody underrates mustangs. everyone talks about how chevrolet wins the world street nationals and how much faster the ls1 is than the 03 cobra. its really not. they are about the same. camaro and t/a come with a 350 and 3550 in weight. the 03 cobra is a 281 with a small blower at over 3600 pounds. my theory is, if u have a big motor, no power adder, small motor with a power adder. look at the car that one world street nationals, it was a big block 632 cubic inch motor with 3 kits of nitrous only running 6.50s. that is slow considering john gullet 375 cubic inch single turbo motor mustang runs 6.40s at over 220. t/a's and camaros owners i think are underrating mustang to much. gotta love those hoofkicking small block fords that can run 7.80s at over 180mph on 10.5 tire with only a 306 c.i. single turbo

Hmmm,
I've never seen a stock LS1 beat a stock 03 Cobra... I'm sure its possible given that drivers are different, but in general the LS1 has always had MONSTER status for reasons I can't quite figure out... I mean really... What self-respecting performance enthusiast would drive a bone stock car? (Chevy or Ford) :D |
wonder why gm quit making the catfish & the trans am then, now they are pitting the vette against the stang, hummm, wonder why, lol. :D :D :D :D

Stock for stock, the 03 cobra beats the SS every time. By about .5 sec in the 1/4 and I dont remember how much on the road course. There's a guy that races in Baytown, has an 03 Cabra, claims to run a 12.5 bone stock, even the same tires that came with the car. Not too shabby if you ask me. There's another guy, and I've seen his timeslips, swapped blower pullies, full exhaust, headers and all, and runs 11.80 on street tires! Now thats impressive if you ask me.

The LS1 will often beat an 03 cobra stock for stock. Take an LS1 and throw a cam and bolt ons at it and you can almost get in the 10's.
LS1's have earned there rep. Anyone that thinks otherwise needs to make it out to the track more. |
Well a 2003 cobra with 75 of nos and bold on went 9.90 at 137mph. thats'WOW?;)

Dark,
I often go to the track, Kennedale mostly but I get out to Ennis sometimes. Bone stock with an average driver, LS1s usually hit mid 13s on street tires. (I've seen some hit low 13s... again stock) Seen more than one bone stock 03 Cobra hit 13.0XX, In my experience equal drivers--- stock to stock -- 03 Cobra wins LS1s are great performers out of the box, my point was... Who keeps their car stock? |
No body, is a 281 vs 350, I love any american muscle;)
|
Hell i cooked more than one LS1.These cars are fast bone stock, but if the person who owns it also has the knowledge to work on the car and add some mods, these cars just fly.Im, not into the GM thing anymore but i do like the LS1 especially when its shrinking in my rear view mirror!!!:p

Well, I finally got to see my first '03 Cobra run at Norwalk Raceway Park this past Monday.
The guy had exhaust work and drag radials... The pass he made while I was pulling up to the water box was a 12.20 @ 116 mph. WOW! I'm impressed. I still can't get over how portly those things are. 3600+ lbs is alot to move. Imagine if the Cobra went on a diet. :) E |
