Reset Computer in 96 Mustang GT?

The car seems to be severely out of time and will not start. It turns over like it wants to but it just wont...before it wouldnt start at all it would idle very low and sputter to a stall. Ive disconnected the battery cables and removed the Jet performance chip I had installed and the same thing happens. Im just wondering if im resetting the computer properly or if it can be put in time by taking to dealership. The only other thing I can think of would be clogged cats since the damn thing has 4 pre cats and 2 convertors on it.

Any suggestions? Its currently sitting in driveway with battery cables off of it.

you wouldnt happen to be trying to start it with the spare are ya? i have the same car an i had a key made to oenmy doors and i spaced it off and was tryin to start it wih my spare! it would fire right upthen when it went to go to anidle it would spudder and die its because my spare did not have the right chip in the key! so my ignition would read that and shut the car off! ???

No I wasnt using my spare... I had it checked out and I fried a part of the ECM messing with the ground on my audio system. Im considering it a lesson learned. Good thing they are somewhat affordable to replace.

btw gt96 what are intake spacers? and how you like the flowmasters?

im glad you got your problem fixed cheap first off!.... but anyways a intake spacer is a 1\4 inch "phenolic" metal that bolts inbetween your intake manifold and upper intake plenum takes like 20 mins to install.... it says to add 5-10 hp but thats questionable to me but it cools the air comin off your manifold so it increases throttle response quite i bit. thats the only difference i could feel? but it did have great throttle response. you can get on ebay under mustang 96 for 25 to 30 $ and why you are at it you can scrub off the "throttle gum" inside your throttle body "its the black resin in the plenum" and that helped tons in throttle response to

o ya and the flows i like them for sound but i am replacing them for a mac catback for more hp flows sound great but are very restrictive!

Intake spacers for 4.6's are a waste of money. Most never show any gains, and some even lose hp.

Also, flows these days are too common. If you want a real deep sound, but loud at WOT, check out Mac muffs.

i agree and dissagree with you but..... mycarwas dynoed with the 2 more hp with spacers and throttle response was hella better but some cn makethere own oppinions..... as for the flows..... i agree to go with the macs but....... just cause flows are common does not man they are not makin your cars performance beter they hav to be common for a reason?

Im still waiting on the ecm from a salvage yard..if its not here tomorrow im gonna grab one at the ford dealer although its double the price.

I have a couple questions for you guys with 96GT's

First one is I want to totally upgrade the exhaust from headers all the way back. I cant get anyone to do the offroad type cause its not legal..lol. I wanna go with a highflow cat system.Would appreciate a push in right direction im more interested in performance than I am sound.

Second one: 3:73 gears....how hard are these to install and what kinda performance increase would I achieve? They seem to be affordable but I bet it would be expensive to install. Good thing a local shop owes me a favor:) Thanks in advance guys.

For that you could have gone after-market...
