Hard to fnd custom part
I bought this car a couple years ago and even though so many things go wrong with all the custom bodywork i still love it. anyway, the previous owner (which passed away) chose to customize the hood by making it open european-style from back to front...like corvettes do. Anyway, the hood release cable has rusted up beyond repair and i tried everything to try to fix it but finally gave up... none of you will probably be able to id it but i at least need some help trying to find some kind of replacement or something. theres pics and further info here:

It looks like any standard cable to me. Why can't you have the end of your old cable put on to a new cable cut to the proper length?
yeah, thats a normal cable... lokar makes cables like that.. looks like something out of a full size car that was adapted.. pretty much any hood release cable the right length would work..
It looks like you should be able to just get any cble that size or at least close to it and make it work. You might have to make a braket your self, but it shouldnt be to hard. I just went through this samething with my Throttle cable. No one seems to stock the right one for a '71 351C2v. I bought a bar of 1/8 X 3 X 3ft weld plate and just cut it and bent it to work.

where would i find a generic one thats the right length?
you might try the nissan dealer and see if it came from something like a 260z, or even the triumph dealer as it may have come from a TR7. just a thought.
how long is it? LOKAR sells them in a bunch of different lengths.. and will custom make them too..
its approx. 47 in. from end to end
thanx this looks like it will work but I wonder how hard "U-Cut-to-Fit" is going to be |
I would try looking at imports in the wrecking yard. It is for a rear opening hood, and frankly there isn't that many cars that do that. Look for hondas, early Datsuns, maybe even Saab. Good luck
